LOCAL SPIRITS: CHANNELING SPRING SPIRITS

With Brian McCullough, The Standard Pour

Photography by Danny Fulgencio

Behind The Standard Pour’s wooden, elbow-worn bartop, mixologist Brian McCullough muses about the weather as he whips up two crafty cocktails using local ingredients. We agree that Texas has two dominant seasons— a Dante-esque ninth ring of summer and polar vortex winters. “And in between, we pray for a great fall and spring,” says McCullough with a laugh, before reiterating what should be our state motto: “That’s Texas weather: If you don’t like it, just wait 10 minutes.” If ever there was a way to truly savor our short reprieve between scraping ice and sweating buckets, these drinks might just do the trick.
