The idea began the day Brianne and Trey Denton, the owners of BLUE LOTUS , a floral and water garden design company, bought an antique bed frame at an estate sale. Creating objects of beauty for others is what this imaginative couple does for a living, so it’s not surprising that they’d dream up something out of the ordinary for their own home.
They set up their inspiration in the corner of their East Dallas yard, next to the chicken coop. Within the frame, they planted a blanket of oregano, lavender and thyme, and surrounded it with beds of organic vegetables. To welcome plenty of pollinators, they created a home for their honeybees.
Those bedside tables on either side of the frame house their beehives, which came courtesy of the Texas Honeybee Guild, who collects their honey and sells it at local markets. Brianne and Trey’s yard has inspired many of their friends to get creative in their yards.
