Though it’s not always easy to recognize, hunger is a reality for millions of Americans. The stigma and shame attached to this condition keeps it shuttered behind closed doors. The truth is that too many in this land of plenty go to bed wondering whether their families will have enough to eat tomorrow. An estimated 17 million American children will feel the pangs of food insecurity during the course of next year. The sick and the elderly are also among the most vulnerable.
